‘Hit the Surf’ Programme run by RNLI 2016
Dear Parents/carers of Years 4 and 5
The RNLI have organised a programme called ‘Hit the Surf’ for pupils aged 8-11 years. It aims to encourage children to develop their surf based skills and beach safety awareness. It is being run at Teignmouth and all interested local schools were able to sign up for a session.
We have been lucky enough to be allocated an afternoon session on Monday 6th June, starting at 1.30pm – 3.30pm, arriving back at school around 4.00pm. If the weather is poor the session may be reduced, we will call the RNLI centre on the day to check.
Due to the works taking place at Dawlish Warren the venue this year has changed to Teignmouth which means transport has to be arranged and a non-refundable cost of £3.84 per child will apply. Please do not send any money into school until your child’s place has been confirmed.
Children must bring the following with them:
- Sun cream and hat
- Sweatshirt and jogging bottoms
- Swimming costume/shorts and towels
- Any medication required
(Wet suits will be provided by the RNLI. Pupils may bring their own wetsuits.)
All pupils must be able to swim 25metres and be happy to enter the sea.
In order for your child to go they must return the reply slip, in an envelope addressed to Miss Emmerton by Friday 20th May. Due to limited places, if more than 30 slips are returned, names will be selected at random. If your child is successful we will send confirmation and paperwork from the RNLI to view and complete. Please do not hesitate to contact the school office or myself if you have any questions or concerns.
