Shoebox appeal 2016
7th November 2016
This year at Gatehouse ACE Academy we have made the exciting decision to work with the Dawlish Water Rotary Club to collect shoeboxes for children in Moldova. The Dawlish Rotary Club have run this partnership alongside the charity Christian Response to Eastern Europe for many years now. Our involvement in this programme is a fantastic opportunity for our pupils to create a gift for children who may be less fortunate than themselves.
On Monday 7th November all children in school will attend an assembly where we will look at the ideas behind the shoebox scheme. We will look at examples of gifts and discuss how this fits with our school’s ‘Rocket’ vision.
The idea behind the Christmas Shoebox is to collect small new items such as pencils, gloves and sweets and gather them together to create a gift for a child on Christmas Day.
If you would like to prepare a box to donate to this scheme, a suggested list of items is available from the school office, which can be put inside the box. The items are grouped into age groups and sexes to allow you to personalise your donation. We ask that items are placed inside a wrapped shoebox with a label on the top providing information of who the box is intended for.
When you have completed your box we ask that all shoeboxes are returned to school by 9am on Thursday 17th November. This is to allow time for all shoeboxes to be collected and sent to where they are needed.
If you have any questions or queries, please contact the school office or speak to Lucy Cleaver.
