Autumn Term 2019 - Update

Dear Parents/Carers

We hope that you have all had an enjoyable summer holiday and are beginning to settle into the new routines of the Autumn term.  With this in mind I would like to share with you a few changes to our school for the year ahead.

Morning Drop Off

We have observed over the past 12 months, that the children arrive into school calm, prepared to learn and at their best on the days that it is raining, as they all come into school at staggered times between 8.40am and 8.50am. From week commencing the 16thth September the school classrooms will be open for their arrival from 8.40am and either their class teacher or a support member of staff will be in class to meet the children with an activity ready. Children who prefer to start the day with some exercise will be able to participate in cross country running on the field for the first half of the Autumn term, followed by skipping or ball skills on the KS2 playground in the second half of the term supported by staff members.

Our assembly format will be the following for the Autumn Term -

Monday morning assembly linked to pupil Well Being and Growth Mindset

Tuesday afternoon assembly - Storytelling

Wednesday afternoon assembly – Singing

Thursday afternoon assembly – In class assembly, unit assembly or class assembly to parents

Friday afternoon assembly from 2.30pm – Celebration assembly (parents/carers to attend if their child is being awarded, parents will be informed the Friday before, giving a weeks notice), this will include Learner of the Week, Cup awards and House Points. This will start on Friday 20th September.

In response to the pupil and parent questionnaires earlier in the year, each Unit has reviewed the homework that it will provide to its children. A letter will be sent out with the expectations of homework for their individual Unit.

Growth Mindset

At the end of the Summer term, Mrs Deacon launched the schools Growth Mindset imitative in school to pupils and staff and to parents who attended a workshop. We will continue to embed the initiative  with the children in the coming weeks and we hope that you will be hearing more about the characters from your children as the weeks progress. You will also be able to check the school website for updates on how the children are doing with their Growth Mindset!

School Values

At the end of the Summer term, Mrs Walker and Mrs Borbon worked with children across the school to establish whether we needed to change our school’s values and it was agreed that some were easier to understand and follow than others! As such they completed a short list of suggested school values for the children and the results are due imminently. Once announced, as a parent/carer/ community friend if you are able to support us with any of our school values either as an assembly, within class, ideas for celebration, they would be most welcome.

Behaviour Policy

Currently the First Federation Trust and each of its individual schools are reviewing their Behaviour Policy. As soon as this is complete we will share this with the staff, children and our parents/carers.

School Website

You will have noticed that during the Summer term that the school’s website was given a visual ‘makeover’, over the next couple of weeks the content will also be updated. Watch this space!

Curriculum Update

Thank you to those parents earlier in the year who attended a workshop on how we could improve our curriculum offer for the forthcoming year and to those parents who were unable to attend but completed a questionnaire. As a teaching team, we have many exciting changes this year and would like to share this with you on Tuesday 1st October either at 9.15am or 5pm, this will also be an opportunity for you to meet the schools senior leadership team.
