Dear Parents/ Carers, 16th March 2020
I am writing to provide you with a further update regarding the ongoing concerns relating to the Coronavirus.
There is a lot of information in the news at the moment as well a lot of speculation on social media. This means that there are many questions about the spread of the virus and how best to manage it.
Last week the government moved into the ‘delay’ phase. This is a strategy to slow the spread of the disease. The advice for schools currently is to remain open. Therefore all First Federation schools will remain open unless advised to close by Public Health England, the Department for Education or Devon County Council.
If a school has to close, either as part of a nationwide closedown, or because we cannot maintain a safe level of staffing, we will inform parents immediately. Staff have been spending the last couple of weeks planning for such eventualities and we will make sure that there is work available for pupils every day. This will be available via school websites and communication apps. Please let the school office know if you would not be able to access the internet so we can ensure you receive hard copies.
This situation is clearly very fast moving. Advice will change regularly. We will communicate any changes for schools as and when they occur. If you don’t hear from us, then school remains open and we ask that everyone ensures they regularly wash hands. Children only need to be absent from school if they are showing any symptoms and need to isolate. Otherwise they are expected at school every day, as usual.
It is anticipated that this virus will spread rapidly over the coming weeks and months. There will inevitably be disruption to all aspects of our daily lives. We will do our best to remain open. However there may be times when we need to work in a different way to allow this to happen. It is anticipated that this disruption will only be temporary.
Thank you for your support and co-operation.
First Federation Trust.
