On the 1st of May, 7 Year 5/6 Boys had a football fixture against Westcliff Primary.

Gatehouse vs Westcliff A
For this match, the weather was awful. Constant heavy rain but the boys were still keen to get playing!
Gatehouse were on the back foot from the off, struggling to string passes together and the weather having an impact straight away. Gatehouse were defending strong until Westcliff played a long ball and Ashton (GK) couldn't keep hold of the ball as it was very slippery and Westcliff headed the ball home.
This Error only spurred Gatehouse on. From the kick off, Arthur received the ball and switch in to the right to Sam Marsden who cut inside and shuffled past their midfielder and played a through ball to Warren Chambers who finished it beautifuly first time past the keeper to make it 1-1.
The game then started opening up with chances going to both teams. Some wonderful sweeping up from Ashton in goal being quick off his line and some brilliant strong defending from Westcliff kept the score at 1-1 until Westcliff played a ball through to their striker which split our defence and made it 2-1 to Wescliff.
Gatehouse were determined to kick on after this slip up. The left side was under so much pressure but Harry D and Arthur E were holding strong with brilliant tackles and tracking back. But Gatehouse then got their chance through Sam M who made a brilliant run into the middle who was found by Warren C and he slotted the ball home.
Half Time score 2-2
In the second half, it was more of the same. Westcliff pushing hard. some big last ditch tackles from Josh W and Kaiden M were coming in to deny Westcliff once more. Until Gatehouse got a corner. The ball was played in but headed away by the defence and their midfielder played a long ball over the top of Kaiden and the pace of their striker was too much and Westcliff went 3-2 Ahead.
Once again Gatehouse needed to regroup. From the kick off Warren played the ball back to Sam who played wonderful one - two with Arthur and a first time through ball to Warren played him through but had a defender hastling as he placed the ball confidently into the bottom left to make it 3-3.
The game was still at a very high tempo. Both team putting in big challenges. Harry D still soaking up the pressure. Josh W making key passes and interceptions, until Westcliff played another long ball over the top and Ashton came out and got beaten to the ball by the striker but Kaiden was charging back to block the shot with a brilliant slide tackle and cover the open goal. Ashton gave him a big hug and thank you for that one!
It looked like it was going to be a 3-3 draw until Josh W switched the ball to the left to Harry D who played the ball forward to Arthur who made a darting run past the defender and took a shot from a tight angle and smashed it in the top right corner to make it 4-3 Gatehouse with 2 mins left.
Everyone from Gatehouse got in front of the ball and played safe and compact until the final wistle.
Was a brilliant game! And had a brilliant turnout of people coming to watch the game! There was a big cheer! Final Score 4-3 Gatehouse.

Well Done Boys! The sheer determination pulled you through the game but also the teamwork. There were lot of slips and slides and mistakes due to the weather but the covering and encouragement was second to none. Very proud of you all!
