At Gatehouse Primary Academy, we recognise that the personal development of pupils spiritually, morally and culturally, plays a significant part in the their ability to learn and achieve. We therefore aim to provide an education that provides pupils with opportunities to explore and develop their own values and beliefs, spiritual awareness, high standards of personal behaviour, a positive caring attitude towards people and an understanding of their's and others social and cultural traditions. These aspects of development are interwoven in all areas of the curriculum. Many curriculum subjects provide opportunities to listen and talk to each other; learn an awareness of treating all as equal and accepting people who are physically and mentally different; agree and disagree; take turns and share equipment and work co-operatively and collaboratively. In planning lessons, teachers are aware of the need to develop and explore a wide variety of spiritual, moral, social and cultural opportunities.
