  • Covid 19 Update for Parents/ Carers

    Fri 21 Jan 2022

Covid 19 Update for Parents/ Carers

    Dear parents/ carers

We were all aware at the beginning of January that we were likely to have a bumpy half of term with Covid 19, as a school we had been largely unaffected by Covid 19 with just a small steady flow in the second half of the Autumn term and very few cases before this.

We are now in a challenging position where we have a highly transmissible variant but most measures that were in place in schools are no longer deemed necessary. Please be assured that the school is in regular contact with the DfE, PHE and the FFT to ensure that we mitigate as much risk as possible in the school environment.

Some classes have been heavily impacted by Omicron so far this term, whilst others have had very few cases, classes that have been affected are currently having a staggered start and end to the day, please can all others classes arrive as normal in the mornings from 8.40am.

However, unlike in other terms, this term, we have had several staff testing positive, but again to reassure you, the school is still very much operational. If this is to change, we will of course, let you know, it is the DfE's ambition that home learning should be the last resort whilst we are at this stage of the pandemic.

Please can we ask that any siblings of those that have tested positive for Covid 19 take a daily LFT and where possible please can we suggest that LFT's are taken before attending big events outside of school.

    Please stay safe everyone.

    Best wishes

  • Changes to the self-isolation period for those who test positive for COVID-19

    Fri 14 Jan 2022

    Dear parents/ carers

This is a quick update message regarding the changes to the self isolation period for a positive Covid case.

Changes to the self-isolation period for those who test positive for COVID-19

From Monday 17 January, people who are self-isolating with COVID-19 will have the option to reduce their isolation period after 5 full days if they test negative with a lateral flow device (LFD) test on both day 5 and day 6 and they do not have a temperature. For example, if they test negative on the morning of day 5 and the morning of day 6, they can return to their education or childcare setting immediately on day 6.

The first test must be taken no earlier than day 5 of the self-isolation period, and the second must be taken the following day. All test results should be reported to NHS Test and Trace.

If the result of either of their tests is positive, they should continue to self-isolate until they get negative results from two LFD tests on consecutive days or until they have completed 10 full days of self-isolation, whichever is earliest.

Anyone who is unable to take LFD tests or anyone who continues to have a temperature will need to complete the full 10 day period of self-isolation.

    Have a lovely weekend!

  • Gatehouse Primary Academy celebrates ‘Good’ Ofsted rating

    Wed 12 Jan 2022

School moves two grades from ‘Inadequate’ to ‘Good’ in latest inspection

A Devon primary school is celebrating the results of its latest school inspection by Ofsted. Gatehouse Primary Academy in Dawlish has been judged ‘Good’ in all areas. The latest report praised the leadership and teaching, the curriculum, and noted how proud pupils are of their school.

Leila Naldrett, Head of School at Gatehouse said “This report is an excellent and hugely well-deserved outcome for our school. The team at Gatehouse has worked tirelessly since our last full inspection. We are passionate about raising standards in education and are dedicated to creating a school environment that is positive and stimulating for both the children and staff. Each step of the school improvement journey has been meticulously considered to ensure the maximum impact for the children, whilst ensuring that the wellbeing of children and staff is supported. It’s wonderful to see Ofsted recognise this hard work and commitment.”

Paul Walker, Chief Executive of First Federation Trust said “Achieving ‘good’ is a tremendous outcome. And amid a pandemic - it’s a truly brilliant achievement. The staff and pupils have worked so hard for this and deserve such a super report. As a member of the First Federation Trust family of schools, Gatehouse Primary Academy has benefited from tailored improvement support from our Trust in key focus areas, as well as staff training and development, in areas such as subject knowledge and teaching practice. Our Trust has developed a tried and tested approach to school improvement. Each school is supported to improve, whatever their starting point. Working together with Leila and her team and sharing expertise from across our Trust has had a huge impact on the turnaround at Gatehouse.”

Leila Naldrett, Head of School added “I could not be prouder of this achievement and would like to thank the team at Gatehouse, the school community and First Federation Trust for their support.”

A small selection of comments from the Ofsted inspectors included:

‘Gatehouse is a thoroughly inclusive school. Pupils are happy and love coming to school to see their friends and staff. Pupils talk with pride about how their school has improved. They enjoy learning and value the wide range of subjects they study.’

‘Children get off to a flying start. Effective teaching in the early years ensures children develop their phonics knowledge well. Staff build precisely on what pupils already know'.

‘Pupils are respectful, caring and keen to learn. Pupils are prepared for life in modern Britain. Leaders ensure that pupils develop the skills required to be a positive member of society.'

'Leaders are determined for every pupil to be successful'

  • Information for Parents Covid 19 Testing Changes

    Tue 11 Jan 2022

    Dear parents/ carers

Today the governments advice on Covid 19 testing has changed. Please see below the key important changes and where you can find out more information.

If you get a positive rapid lateral flow test (LFT) test result, most people will not need to take a PCR test to confirm the result. You must self-isolate immediately if you get a positive lateral flow device (LFT) test result.

From 11 January in England, people who receive a positive lateral flow test (LFT) test results for coronavirus (COVID-19) will be required to self-isolate immediately and will not be required to take a confirmatory PCR test. This is a temporary measure while COVID-19 rates remain high across the UK. Whilst levels of COVID-19 are high, the vast majority of people with positive LFT results can be confident that they have COVID-19.

People who have a positive LFT test result should only have a follow-up PCR test if:

    • they have a health condition that means they may be suitable for new coronavirus (COVID-19) treatments
    • they are taking LFT tests as part of research or surveillance programmes, and the programme asks them to do so
    • they have a positive day 2 LFD test after arriving in England

Under this new approach, anyone who receives a positive LFT test result should report their result on GOV.UK and must self-isolate immediately but will not need to take a follow-up PCR test. After reporting a positive LFD test result, they will be contacted by NHS Test and Trace so that their contacts can be traced and must continue to self-isolate.
