  • A message to Unit 1 families

    Tue 28 Mar 2023

Next term we will be learning about the geography, music and textile art of India.  To get children excited about this we are having an India day on Thursday.  We will be learning about Indian food, decorative art, music  and dance.   Your child is invited to dress in the colours of the Indian flag that day (green, orange and white).

    Thanks very much

  • Careers Fair 14th July 2023

    Thu 16 Mar 2023

After our hugely successful KS2 Careers Fair last year we are now joining forces with Westcliff Primary Academy, ours will take place in the morning and theirs in the afternoon on Friday 14th July 2023.

The idea behind this is that we will be able to share contacts, with some volunteers doing ours in the morning and heading to Westcliff later in the day. Volunteers will of course have the option - they don't have to do both.

If you think you know someone that might be willing to come in and share a little about their job, please let the Gatehouse school office know and we can arrange for contact for Miss Emmerton to contact them.

We had the following stations last year: fire service, dental nursing, farming, police, architect, biomedical science, RAF fighter pilot, quantity surveyor, rail service, marketing & IT.

It was a huge range so thank you to everyone that took part.

There is no reason why we can't have these return volunteers, if they would like to, but equally it would be great to have some new faces and careers for the children to learn about.

Thank you for your support in advance.

Families who have eligibility to benefit related free school meals, Devon County are writing to advise them that their child(ren) may be able to access the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) Programme.

The HAF Programme is fully funded by the Government and enables these children to access a variety of exciting activities over the Easter, Summer and Christmas school holidays as well as receiving a cooked meal.

Families can access up to 4 sessions in the Easter holidays, 16 sessions in the Summer holidays and 4 sessions in the Christmas holidays. Additional sessions maybe available but will be charged for. Please enquire, direct with your local provider if this is possible.

For further details and to see what programmes are available near you, please visit:

    Devon.cc/haf

Families will need to enquire and book, direct with each provider who will be required to see a copy of a letter (check our child's bookbag) and reference code to confirm the space. You may choose to forward a confirmation email to your provider as confirmation of eligibility or send a screen shot. Ask the school office for details.

Please keep the letter safe so that you can use for future HAF sessions.

    Kind regards,

Holiday Activities and Food Programme Team

  • #LetGirlsPlay!

    Wed 01 Mar 2023

    Dear parents and carers

On March 8th we will see the return of #LetGirlsPlay! This is a national incentive to promote equal opportunities for women and girls in football by 2024. Last year was a great success where we saw girls in KS1 and KS2 having the opportunity to play football. This year, we want it to be even better! Next Wednesday, EVERY girl at Gatehouse Primary will have the opportunity to play football during the course of the school day. We will once again be supported by coaches from Starcross Dons Youth FC who currently have competitive girls teams at two different age groups as well as a Wildcats Centre for girls aged 5-11 and social football for both teenagers and women.

Coming soon will be more information about an initiative we will be launching for boys - #LetBoysDance! Keep an eye on your emails for further details.

    Many thanks

Weather permitting, Unit 2 will be going on a local walk as part of our English curriculum and story writing on Tuesday 7th March from 9am – 11 am. We will be taking the children to visit Dawlish Town Centre and the beach to identify the sights and sounds a visitor to Dawlish may experience. Please can you make sure that your child has a waterproof coat for this occasion. We would welcome any parent volunteers who are able to walk with us. If you are available to help, could you please contact the office.

This is an outside classroom activity in our local area, an annual SOE3 form completed for consent.
