Gatehouse Primary Academy Curriculum
Our curriculum at Gatehouse Primary Academy recognises that the National Curriculum is one element of the personal development in the education of our children. Our curriculum takes a whole-school approach to the development of a strong moral compass, resilience to understand the challenges of the world around them and the confidence to aspire to achieve anything. In recognition that our children enter our school with a unique set of skills and experiences, we prioritise flexibility in our curriculum so that we can plan learning opportunities that nurture children’s interests and talents. With a clear focus on well-being, life skills and a rich body of knowledge (National Curriculum) children will complete their time at Gatehouse with the building blocks firmly in place to become successful young people.
Body of Knowledge:
- English

The curriculum and provision are designed to foster children’s curiosity and creativity. The curriculum has been developed by the school community to best reflect the needs of all our children. Through our curriculum progression, our skills build on prior learning year on year outlined by the National Curriculum and aims to not only extend the children’s subject knowledge, but through more complex challenges, deepen their skills and thinking.
Well-being:
- Mental Health
- Positive attitude to keep learning
- Communication, social and emotional understanding and skills

Children need to appreciate and understand the differences and diversity in the world around them. They recognise the fundamental characteristics needed to be a responsible, respectful and active citizen. Through appreciation of British Values and the School Values they understand the road to success is not always straight forward, however the opportunities our curriculum provides support them to overcome life’s challenges and supports them to make sense of their place in the world.
Life Skills:
- Communication and interpersonal skills.
- Decision making and problem solving
- Creative and critical thinking.
- Self-awareness and empathy
- Assertiveness and self-control
- Resilience
At Gatehouse Primary Academy we take pride in our locality and that our school grounds allow us to maximise opportunities within our wildlife area, school garden, forest school, extensive playground areas and school field. We are also fortunate to have a woodland area adjacent to the school and 6 local beaches to explore. High quality external visits and visitors into our school are also well designed to enhance the curriculum. Children feel safe to try new things whilst engagement with our curriculum promotes achievement, confidence and good behaviour. Our aim is to provide children with a sense of pride in their place within the community and a clear understanding of how they can make a positive contribution both in and out of school, we foster this through our ‘programme of achievement’ that acknowledges volunteering in the local community and enrichment activities both inside and outside of school.
Quite simply, our curriculum allows children to flourish at Gatehouse Primary Academy.
