Spelling Shed

What is Spelling Shed?

As with our previous Word Study approach, Spelling Shed involves the relationship between sounds and written symbols, using morphology to help spell through meaning. The lessons incorporate phonics, morphology, and etymology elements and include a variety of instruction and activities that engage and challenge students while they learn.

Spellings at Home

Children will be set spelling assignments to complete each week that are linked to the spelling rule or pattern that they are learning. There are a range of games that children can play which will help them to learn their spellings in a fun and engaging way.   Ideally, children should spend a short time every day accessing the games and activities available on the Spelling Shed.

Regular spelling practise helps children to build their vocabulary and feel more confident with their writing, allowing them to write more freely and imaginatively.   With your help and encouragement, your child can understand the importance of practising their spellings.

In addition to weekly set spellings, the more they use the program to revise previously learnt spelling patterns, the more confident they will feel in continuing to use these words in their every day writing.
