At Gatehouse Primary Academy our Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education curriculum is central to supporting the development of pupils as healthy, independent, and responsible members of society. The curriculum is delivered through a two-year rolling programme and ensures that all pupils access a broad, balanced, and progressive learning experience.
We use a spiral curriculum model which builds on prior learning and revisits key themes regularly to deepen understanding and embed core values. Our programme promotes emotional literacy, resilience, mental health and well-being, and prepares children for the challenges and opportunities they will face in life.
Our Key Objectives Across the Two-Year Rolling Programme for PSHE at Gatehouse are:
- Understanding the importance of physical and emotional health, including basic hygiene, healthy eating, and physical activity and safe relationships.
- Recognise and managing a wide range of feelings in themselves and others.
- Understanding the concept of money, needs vs. wants, and making choices.
- Developing skills in conflict resolution, cooperation, and decision-making.
- Recognising what makes each person unique and begin to understand personal identity.
- Learning about the human body, changes from birth to adulthood, and basic human reproduction (age-appropriate)..
- Reflect on goals, aspirations, and how to achieve them through perseverance and resilience.
